Melodious Mothers in Action

For a long time, I wanted to sing in a choir, but having a toddler and a newborn, it wasn’t an option for me to leave them to go for rehearsals. During a coffee morning that I ran weekly for mothers and babies, a friend said to me that it was a pity we couldn’t be in a choir with our kids. The lightbulb went on, and our Mammies Choir was formed – we would meet each each week, bring our kids along, and enjoy the mayhem whilst learning to sing.

It’s more than just singing…

There is something magical that happens when a group of mothers sing together.  For that hour, we are listened to and heard.  We are united and form the strongest of bonds.  We process many emotions, we laugh and cry, we comfort and nurture one another.  A sympathetic smile can brighten our day, an empathetic hug shows we are all in the same situation, and a strong coffee helps a lot as well!

Nurturing our Joy…

For me, having suffered with postnatal depression, singing in this setting has given me the lift I need each week.  It has boosted my spirits and brought me such joy.  The friendships formed over the past three years are solid, and hold us up when we feel down.  We have all grown in confidence and it feels like we have been given a platform on which to stand, speak, perform and grow as women – not just as mothers.

Being brave…

We are a wild brave bunch – we have recorded 2 videos to date, and many of our members have participated in advanced singing and personal development courses, such as Singer Not Beginner levels 1 & 2.  Something that was a pipe dream for us has been realised, thanks to Eimear and her guidance.

A little music for your heart:
